42 Reasons We Won’t Miss President George W Bush

bushs-approval-rating.jpg

Would you believe it’s possible to narrow the reasons we won’t miss Bush down to 42? No, but it’s a start. We all know the penalty for forgetting history - after all, we’ve been through two Bushes! To get things started, here is a particularly infamous quote for each year of his presidency, from the sadly hilarious to the infuriatingly tragic:

2000: “If this were a dictatorship, it’d be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I’m the dictator.”

2001: “You teach a child to read, and he or her will be able to pass a literacy test.”

2002: “There’s only one person who hugs the mothers and the widows, the wives and the kids upon the death of their loved one. Others hug but having committed the troops, I’ve got an additional responsibility to hug and that’s me and I know what it’s like.”

2003: “As you know, these are open forums, you’re able to come and listen to what I have to say.”

2004: “And so during these holiday seasons, we thank our blessings.”

2005: “It’s a myth to think I don’t know what’s going on. It’s a myth to think that I’m not aware that there’s opinions that don’t agree with mine, because I’m fully aware of that.”

2006: “Make no mistake about it: I understand how tough it is, sir. I talk to families who die.”

2007: “I don’t particularly like it when people put words in my mouth, either, by the way, unless I say it.”

2008: “There is no doubt in my mind when history was written, the final page will say: Victory was achieved by the United States of America for the good of the world.” –George W. Bush, addressing U.S. troops at Camp Arifjan in Kuwait, Jan. 12, 2008

mission-accomplished.jpg

Mission … what? OK, to be fair, the White House disclaimed responsibility for this particularly controversial snafu by indicating they were referring to the ‘invasion’ and not the ‘liberation’ of Iraq. Still, in the speech he gave under said banner Bush clearly stated that “In the Battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed” Though the claim has been contested, one analyst has asserted that the White House later sought to erase the banner from videos of the speech and thus from history.

untitled-8.jpg

So OK, Iraq got off on the wrong track so you’d think the president would be better prepared for a new crises, particularly one on American soil, right? Well, as it turns out, while Katrina was devastating families the president was playing guitar and eating cake.

photoshopped.jpg

These Photoshopped images might be a bit extreme, but they do show the curious juxtaposition of what Bush was doing while others suffered simultaneously in New Orleans. And really: anyone who has seen Bush in action could almost imagine these being real.

wave.jpg

The infamous Sydney hand wave. One has to wonder: is this his idea of non-conformity or just another classic display of Bush’s idiocy? With this president either seems possible, really, though the have-hearted manner in which he is lifting his hand and the mildly furrowed eyebrows suggest he genuinely might have confused right for left (which might explain his inability to work with either side of the political spectrum). The caught-on-camera moments are just too frustrating to end with, so here are some more classic Bushisms and quotes to round things out:

2001: “We spent a lot of time talking about Africa, as we should. Africa is a nation that suffers from incredible disease.”

“I am here to make an announcement that this Thursday, ticket counters and airplanes will fly out of Ronald Reagan Airport.”

“I couldn’t imagine somebody like Osama bin Laden understanding the joy of Hanukkah.”

“For every fatal shooting, there were roughly three non-fatal shootings. And, folks, this is unacceptable in America. It’s just unacceptable. And we’re going to do something about it.”

2002: “I promise you I will listen to what has been said here, even though I wasn’t here.”

“I don’t know why you’re talking about Sweden. They’re the neutral one. They don’t have an army.”

2003: “I glance at the headlines just to kind of get a flavor for what’s moving. I rarely read the stories, and get briefed by people who are probably read the news themselves.”

“The war on terror involves Saddam Hussein because of the nature of Saddam Hussein, the history of Saddam Hussein, and his willingness to terrorize himself.”

“Oh, no, we’re not going to have any casualties.”

“I’m the commander — see, I don’t need to explain — I do not need to explain why I say things. That’s the interesting thing about being president.”

“I’m also not very analytical. You know I don’t spend a lot of time thinking about myself, about why I do things.”

“I’m the master of low expectations.”

2004: “Tribal sovereignty means that; it’s sovereign. I mean, you’re a — you’ve been given sovereignty, and you’re viewed as a sovereign entity. And therefore the relationship between the federal government and tribes is one between sovereign entities.”

“I saw a poll that said the right track/wrong track in Iraq was better than here in America. It’s pretty darn strong. I mean, the people see a better future.”

2005: “Americans should be prudent in their use of energy during the course of the next few weeks. Don’t buy gas if you don’t need it.”

2006: “The Patriot Act has increased the flow of information within our government and it has helped break up terrorist cells in the United States of America. And the United States Congress was right to renew the terrorist act — the Patriot Act.”

2007: “I heard somebody say, ‘Where’s (Nelson) Mandela?’ Well, Mandela’s dead. Because Saddam killed all the Mandelas.”

Finally, Letterman’s top 10 Bush moments. Enjoy! Need to relax after all of that? We recommend some soothing urban art.

Sorry, Garry, I can’t agree.
I lived in the USA for a while (not anymore, thank heavens), and the americans, on average, are pretty nice people. They do have some stramge problems (lack of good education, weird religious babbling, hysterical about sex), but mainly they’re nice guys.

It’s their leaders which are… um… trying to be polite here… worthless. Worse than worthless. These people are interested in money and power, to the exclusion of everything else.
And the’ve been like that since before WW2.

A complete lack of real world contact, completely manic ideas about their own worth, and an astounding lack of competence in *any* field makes sure I do not wish to have a beer with any of these leaders.

I’ll have a beer with the normal people, thanks.

We had our chance to get rid of him in 04 when it was already abundantly clear he was a disaster. But no, we did the stereotypical dumb assed american thing and re-elected him. To hell with the world and excuse me as i get back in my Excursion SUV with my ’sportsman for bush’ bumper sticker on it.

Hmm….your history sense doesn’t go past the hundred-year point Mr. Walsh? As it happens, the American have only been continuing a tradition trademarked by the English.
And if I’m not mistaken, the Spaniards perfected it ages ago. Why only grind one side of the axe?

I’m not defending the guy by any stretch of the imagination, but the US Navy has said that the Mission Accomplished banner was put up because the aircraft carrier’s mission was accomplished and they were coming back into their home port, and their families were waiting for them.

How come no one assassinates him? Why let this tyrant continue to breathe? Have you all forgotten what our founding fathers told us to do in times like this? Are you all ignorant and believe that “times change” and actions can no longer be taken against your government? “The tree of liberty must be refreshed every now and then with the blood of patriots and tyrants” Thomas Jefferson.

“Anyone willing to give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserves neither liberty nor safety.” Benjamin Franklin.

This man should be impeached, charged with treason and hanged. No injections, no gas chambers. Hanging and firing line is the only execution method that should be allowed for any criminal convicted of a crime worthy of the death penalty..

But I bet all you morons will be voting for that nigger.

Listen, we Americans have a whole lot of apologizing to do to the rest of the world for the last 8 years of terror WE have impossed on our selfs and the world. Prior to that we were the shinning light of human rights and forward thinking. WE ARE SORRY AND I ASURE YOU WE ARE FOR THE MOST PART, GOOD PEOPLE.

Comment from William Murray

James D. Steinle Sr. — He DID NOT do what he said he would do. First of all, the 9/11 “killers” are all dead. They died when the planes crashed. The mastermind, Osama bin Laden, is NOT DEAD. Bush didn’t do anything right about 9/11. Iraq had nothing to do with it, Saddam Hussein had nothing to do with it. None of the hi-jackers were Iraqi. Most of them were Saudi, and Bush holds hands with the King of Saudi Arabia. Get your head out of the sand and stop watching Fox News.

Comment from Klaus

Garry Walsh 2: pity, I thought I could peacefully and politely discuss things with you. Learn some history; the USA did not “save the worlds ass” even once; they’ve been earning money instead. And since WW2 there has not been a single year (not one) where the USA was not fighting wars somewhere on earth - not one of them for people or freedom or democracy, but all of them for profit.
But what am I talking? Why am I trying to discuss this with you? I have to assume you’re a typical american ‘patriot’, with a corresponding lack of knowledge and willingness to think/argue.
Communications terminated.

James: Sorry, but I have to disagree there. He did not get these killers, as they died in the process of their attack. Interestingly, most of them were from Saudi Arabia (a pretty harsh dictatorship), to which you still have most excellent relations.
I’m afraid history is already showing us what he did. Amongst very many other things, he created more debt, spent more money than *all* previous presidents combined. His only defense is claiming that “History will tell”. Yes. It will. Not according to his wishes, however.

Comment from Jon

Garry you say america saved the world twice, I agree that WW2 was a necessary war but honestly we owe our freedom not only to american WW2 soldiers but also british, canadian, russians, and various anti nazi guerilla fighter groups like the jewish resistance. By the way did you know that the Russians got to berlin before american troops. Next time look up the facts instead of just beleiving government propaganda.

I see a lot of anti-Americanism, even from Americans. I know America is not perfect, but if you liminairies would look around the world and see the leaders that some other nations have, you would thank God for President Bush. Nobody said he was a rocket scientist, but neither was slick Willy. He was smart enought to find Monika though. He was offered Osama Bin Laden by Sudan who had captured him, and Clinton in all his wisdom said we won’t take him because it make cause some people to be upset. I never heard of a Democrat yet and wasn’t afraid of pissing somebody off. Take a look at Putin, you can see what he does to anybody who don’t want him as dictator or to Ahmabinajab in Iran. What a piece of work he is. We have the left wing liberal in Canada, and in my opinion have almost ruined it starting with the left wing commie loving Prime Minister, Trudeau. Liberals it seems, will fall for anything accept God of course and will stand for nothing.

I wonder if these critics could actually find anything good to say about Pres. Bush? It is sad that so many people are so narrow minded, can’t think for themselves and jump on every bandwagon to complain about even their smallest dislike. Why not rather be passionate about your own life and your own concerns?

I suppose I shouldn’t have expected a very enlightened view when I clicked on the link that essentially read 42 reasons that Bush is an idiot. I’m not saying he’s the best we could have done, but photoshopped images and picking on the fact that he’s not a good speaker?

Btw, Jack, Steven Segal movies are good for wasting an hour and a half, but not for getting your political quotes. Also, I’m glad some of you could stay so very civil.

that is the first i heard of the entrepreneur crack. un believable…the end of his speach tonight, as he is walking tough the crowd, signing autographs, each step is another vignette. each vignette consists of someone either touching bush or his body infront of someone, there is always at least one to two minorities in the backround. so pathetically contrived. i kept shaking my head while accepting the fact that my country has become so dumbed down. The traitor we call president needs to be arrested and held accountable to the world for the crimes committed against humanity.

you have tu support your president G.W Bush and his troops. They are doing a good job every day.

We’re all humans and make mistakes. Dont forget that!
and yes yes i know,….if YOU would be president of the united states ,maybe YOU would make a better job.*HAHAHA*
I dont think so.

Dont forget how many peoples have been killed by Sadam. We are living in the 21th century, dictatorship is not the way we should life.

I think Bush is doing a great job.

It should be titlet: 42 Reasons We thank Bush

Good bless america.

I am continually amazed at the people that think that President Bush did what he said he would do…Let me make this simple: He did not get the terrorists that attacked the US, He did not send our troops in with adequate armor, He did not stop the terrorists from attacking other countries, He did not find weapons of mass destruction, He did pardon Scooter!, he did give his friends no-bid contracts, He is spying on Americans, He is allowing torture!

Comment from Alan James
Time: February 1, 2008, 3:47 pm

I think that if all the people that have the support our troops bumper sticker actually cared our troops would not have gone into battle with in-adequate body armor or that we would have had the number of troops that were requested before we went into Iraq. I think if this administration cared about our troops they would fund adequate medical care and take care of the troops with PTSD. I think if it was more than a bumper sticker there would be far fewer homeless veterans but hey a bumper sticker is so much easier.

Comment from Klaus, agin
Time: February 2, 2008, 4:56 am

Hi Phil!

Well, now this does rather depend. Would *you* be better at this job than bush?
Yes, I’m sure there are a lot of background things to keep you busy, things we know nothing about, things which would keep any president hard at work.

But, on the other hand… he took more vacation days than any other US president in history. So it can’t be all *that* bad. And I think being a president is not all that difficult: you need to make some decisions. Inform yourself first, get some expert advice, listen to it first.
Do not ignore advice which doesn’t suit your views. Do not give your friends in industry lots of opportunities to make a LOT of profit. Do not kill a lot of people. Do not say that torture is okay. Behave yourself. Truly try to help your people, and STAY OFF THE REST OF THE WORLD; WHICH IS OF NO DARN CONCERN TO YOU and WILL NOT ATTACK YOU.

Sorry, I’m getting upset again. Shouldn’t spend any time on politics, really, as most politics (yes, from any country) will only make you more upset. In my eyes, most politicians are not even worth of being spat on their feet.

Gentlemen (and ladies), many of you love and support your president. That is nice of you (no, really, it is). However, if your president screws things up… your country is MUCH more important than your president. Don’t try to find excuses for him. Look at him critically - he’s supposed to be doing a very important job, and if he’s obviously incapable of it, he needs to be replaced pronto - to support your country.

PS: Phil: more people were killed by bush (LOTS more) than Saddam. And while Saddam was doing the killing, he was supported (yes, supported) by the USA. Guess where he got that poison from?
Let’s not use some other idiot country leaders as an excuse for your idiot country leader ;-)

Gee, I thought it was the Republicans were in the party of hate. I mean, that’s what the liberal Democrats have been telling us for decades. The sad truth is that the Democrats are far worse than the Repugs, and this thread is but one item in the ever growing pile of solid evidence in support of that.

If we own IRAQ Why are we still paying over 3$ a gallon for gas. Why do we pay them anything for oil. Apparently they owe us nothing for defense. They should be paying us. Somethings don’t make any sense. Why do the Arabs hate us anyhow? We started jerusalem after the great wars. That was Germany last time I checked. Who were they pissed at??

There will always be peace keepers, and ego driven people struggling for power, and educators. We may not be calling them the Irish, the swedes, and the jews. Life is more than a game of king of the hill.

They have all they money. I have to admit they are very cultured and educated, but they have to learn how to share. I’m not going to speculate on who owns all the pharmacuitical companys, and the entertainment industry, and the diamonds, but if we don’t have any money we cant by their good and services! Somebody has to pay retail. They don’t even want us to eat now.

Everything they got in the desert they got from us. They live in a pile of sand and read the koran and bow to MECCA. Scolastic era of achievement; the study of mathematics;what the Greeks contributed to our society needs to be taught and appreciated to be utilized.

Thanks to mothers against drunk drivers we all have to sit home on the internet instead of throwing a coctail party. Those bitches are the ones responsible for internet preditors, so stop blaming people like bush. Hes got enough problems.

We have bigger fish to fry. Let the politicians hang themselves. Why should we hire people qualified to run the country? We are trying to put our heads together, but look at the candidats. My ideas would get us in trouble…. You think?? We need some of the people teaching school running the show.

Don’t we have to defend our interest over there? We started something, but if there not going to come down on their prices
we need to stop defending them. These people that own the oil have accumulated way too much. Bushes ownly vices is that he’s on their side. We can’t cast perils before swine, but I think perhaps we have already done so.

This is nothing but greed. Throwing stones isn’t the answer. They want us to pick up the weapons when we run out of hope.
